Seeing The Difference: Real Estate Photography Part 2

In Photography,Real Estate by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / January 22, 2016 / 0 Comments

Below is a pretty typical picture of a house listed for sale on the MLS. As a professional real estate photographer, I can see several things wrong with this picture. The angle from which the picture was taken doesn’t really flatter this $700,000 house. The palm trees in the center of the photo obscure the beautiful entryway. While the picture represents what the house looks like from the front, it is average at best and it doesn’t really entice a would be buyer.

Below is the same house as photographed by a professional real estate photographer. The angle from which the picture was taken is far more flattering as you can actually see the house (no palm trees obstructing the view). The beautiful two story entry way is revealed as are the dual two car garages. The sky is vibrant and makes the house look even more appealing.

There are many reasons to choose a professional real estate photographer (click here for a great article). Seeing the difference between these two pictures is just one reason.

Seeing The Difference: Real Estate Photography

In Real Estate by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / January 18, 2016 / 0 Comments

Good real estate photography requires a mastery of skills ranging from technical to artistic. It doesn’t end at the last click of the camera’s shutter. Just like the days of film where negatives were developed, the digital images require processing. Images require some level of editing whether it’s simple enhancements to maximize visual appeal or more advanced editing to remove unwanted or distracting elements. I recently created a short video of before and after photos to highlight the difference between the originally taken photo and the final processed photo.

Coming Out from Behind the Lens

In Photography,portraits by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / January 4, 2016 / 0 Comments

For those of us who earn a living behind the lens, it isn’t often that we find ourselves in front of the lens. Hypocritical as it may be, some of us are just more comfortable taking the pictures rather than being the nervous subjects. Over the last Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, my husband and I had our dear friend Sean visit us from Jacksonville. Sean, a professional cinematographer and photographer, twisted my arm over Thanksgiving and spontaneously took some portraits of me with my husband and my youngest daughter. Not my most comfortable moments for sure, so to repay the favor, I put Sean in the hot seat and took some portraits. Here are a few of my favorites.

Why Professional Real Estate Photography Is Worth It

In Real Estate by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

seethedifferencev2-1If I took a survey and asked which image was more appealing, I have no doubt that everyone would choose the image on the right. Without seeing the image on the right, some might even say the image on the left is okay. But why settle for just okay when listing a home for sale?

92% of home buyers use the Internet as part of their home search

Studies by the National Association of Realtors say that 92% of home buyers use the Internet as part of their home search. Homes with photos are overwhelmingly viewed more often than those without and homes that are professionally photographed sell for at as much as $19,000 more than homes photographed by an amateur.

Homes that are professionally photographed sell for at as much as $19,000 more

A professional real estate photographer knows how to use composition and lighting combined with photo editing software to maximize a home’s visual appeal. Successful realtors understand the importance of professionally taken photographs in their marketing strategy.

The cost of professional real estate photography can be as little as 1/10th of 1% of the list price

Compared to the commission or profits to be gained from a successful property sale, the cost of professional real estate photography can be as little as 1/10th of 1% of the list price. Whether the home is being listed by a realtor or for sale by owner, making a tiny investment in professional real estate photography can give the property the edge in today’s real estate market. Sunday Morning Family Shoot

In Photography by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

While the Northeast and other parts of the country have been covered in snow, we Floridians have been basking in our own winter weather. As I pulled out of my garage this Sunday morning, I watched the temperature drop from 60 degrees to 50 degrees in less than a mile. It was a chilly start to the day but the sky was clear and the sun was out! I layered myself in warm clothes, a couple of cameras, lighting gear and met the Normans in Riverview for their family photo session. Here are a few favorite

Steve and Jillia

In Photography by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

I met Steve and Jillia a few months ago through mutual friends at the Innisbrook Golf Resort as spectators to the PGA Tour Valspar Championship. I liked them right off the bat because they were a fun couple and definitely had a great sense of humor. They had known each other for almost two and a half years and had been dating for over a year. While Jillia was away from our group for a brief moment, Steve told us that he had bought the ring and was waiting on the right time to propose. How exciting! So when I saw their happy faces and Jillia sporting a beautiful engagement ring on Facebook, I was beyond thrilled for them! Here are a few pictures from their engagement session yesterday evening.

Senior Portrait of a Very Special Young Man

In Photography by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

Meet Lamont Wilson. A quiet, handsome 17 year old senior at Durant High School in Plant City, FL. My 14 year old stepson Charley, an avid skateboarder, befriended Lamont one afternoon while skateboarding on the street where both Lamont’s family and Charley’s mom lived. The two became friends and aside from skateboarding, they had something else in common. Both had battled bacterial infections as newborns.  Charley’s exposure cost him 10 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) while Lamont’s nearly cost him his life. He spent the first 3 months of his life in the hospital, had multiple brain surgeries and within the first year of his life, he was in and out of the emergency room. He was not expected to be able to walk or talk. Instead, this amazing young man is a member of Durant High School‘s Varsity Football Team tasked with managing the team’s equipment and fully participates in all team events. On Senior Night, which is the last Varsity Football game next week, Lamont along with all other Senior football players and cheerleaders, will be honored on the field, escorted by their parents.  Earlier this summer, he joined Hillsborough County’s Special Olympics team and regularly practices softball and soon, basketball on weekends. His mom Vanessa credits Lamont’s progress and opportunities to the excellent medical care of his neurologist, and the support of the staff and teachers at Durant High School. Yesterday morning, I had the privilege of photographing his Senior Portraits at Durant High School.  Here are a few of my favorites from yesterday’s session.

Red Water Lake

In Photography by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

Recently, I stayed with my in-laws, husband and children on Red Water Lake which is in the Lake Placid, Florida region (near the middle of the state). My teenagers enjoyed wake boarding and tubing while my almost 3 year old enjoyed making sandcastles in the small lake front beach behind the house where we were staying. I’m not a morning person. Sometimes though, getting out of bed near dawn has its own rewards. Here are a few of those rewards.

Juliana

In Photography by dosiawhitephotography@gmail.com / October 24, 2015 / 0 Comments

Almost a month ago, I was honored to attend the baptism of my father’s goddaughter Juliana. This afternoon, I re-visited Juliana and her parents for a more formal portrait session with Juliana in the beautiful baptismal gown made by her grandmother.  Here are just a few shots from our session.
